I read an article today and it brought back memories of working in Belmont Devilliers, a Historical African American community in Pensacola, Florida.
This is the place where the Forgotten Communities Art Project was born.
Bringing to life the culture and history of Pensacola through art was a labor of love.
This piece entitled Five Sisters was created from old photographs from my friend, the owner of Five Sisters Blues Cafe, Cecil Johnson.
Creating this painting based around his childhood memories of his mother and her four sisters, the namesake of his restaurant, was such a joy.
Congratulations to Five Sisters Blues Cafe' in Pensacola, Florida for being ranked 14 out of 60 of the best soulfood spots in the country by Tea & Breakfast!
